In 1993, New Tide Library of Chang Ching-chi’s Chi-wen Press published two of my books simultaneously. At the outset, both Chang’s professional knowledge and my own imagination regarding film books indicated that the market would welcome my A Few Things about Alain Resnais, Federico Fellini, and Film. But no one ever had any reason to believe that my other book, Gay Movies… (it seemed like a risky move), would be a bestseller and undergo multiple printings. I can’t help but laugh because these two books actually are like one thick book with two names. One is about queering Resnais and Fellini’s films, while the other is about making queer movies into movies by Resnais and Fellini. It’s obvious that I couldn’t come up with any new tricks, and this reversal not anything special.
